Land Surveying Technician
HGM Associates currently has a full-time field position available for a Land Surveying Technician.  This position will allow for career advancement.  The position will operate out of our Council Bluffs office. HGM offers flex time, paid vacation, medical, dental and optical insurance along with a 401K Plan.  The successful candidate must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, pass a background check, drug screening, possess a valid driver’s license, willing to work overtime, occasionally travel out of town and stay overnight.

Following are major characteristics that we are seeking:

  • Detail oriented
  • Good communicator (verbal and written)
  • Quick learner
  • Prompt and able to work overtime when required due to project schedule
  • Willingness to work outside in varying weather conditions.

Job responsibilities:

  • Assist survey crew chief
  • Perform tasks as directed by crew chief and/or management
  • Verify survey truck is ready for use each morning (equipment and supplies)
  • Setup and operate survey equipment (HGM will train)
  • Download, edit and email survey data (HGM will train)
  • Work independently (after training) or with other employees.

Items that will make you stand out:

  • Strong math skills
  • Strong computer skill (Excel and Civil 3D)
  • Surveying experience

Civil/Structural Engineer– Specializing in Bridge design
Prefer 2 to 6 years experience with design of highway and/or railroad bridges.  Knowledge of general state and federal requirements for bridge design and construction.   Use of various design software packages and CADD tools.  Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling a plus. Applicants must have a Bachelors Degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering.  We offer a complete benefit package, including flex time, and exceptional compensation opportunities.


Civil Design Engineer
Municipal and Infrastructure design for our Council Bluffs Office for work in the Omaha metro and surrounding areas.
Following are major Characteristics that we are seeking:
Self-starter; able to work through project design with limited direction after initial training

  • P.E. or E.I. with desire to acquire P.E.
  • Design knowledge utilizing Civil 3D and/or MicroStation preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to prioritize efforts on multiple projects and meet project schedules

Desired elements:

Microstation Design and Drafting Technician
Municipal and Infrastructure design and drafting for our Council Bluffs Office for work in the Omaha metro and surrounding areas.

  • 5-10 –years of experience as a design technician; OR
  • 2 year tech degree and commensurate experience
  • Detailed oriented and good communicator
  • Able to read and understand drafting standards, project plans, and project schedule
  • Prompt and able to work overtime when required due to project schedule
  • Experienced in Microsoft programs OUTLOOK, WORD and EXCEL
  • Strong experience with Microstation or AutoCAD required, Civil 3D experience preferred


Transportation Design Engineer
for our Council Bluffs Office.  Work would be mostly for the Iowa Department of Transportation, Counties and the Nebraska Department of Roads. Following are major Characteristics that we are seeking:

  • Self-starter; able to follow up with limited direction
  • 2-6 years of transportation related experience
  • P.E. or E.I. with desire to acquire P.E.
  • Design knowledge utilizing MicroStation/Geopak in a transportation format
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to prioritize efforts on multiple projects and meet project schedules

Transportation Design-Construction Engineer / Technician

  • Civil, Construction or Civil Engineering Technician Degree
  • 2-4 years of transportation related experience
  • Strong communication, math and problem solving skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to prioritize efforts on multiple projects and meet project schedule

Construction Observer / CADD Technician

  • 5-10 –years of experience as a construction observer on roadway projects; OR
  • 4 year degree in civil or construction engineer; OR
  • 2 year degree and commensurate experience
  • Detailed oriented and good communicator
  • Able to read and understand project plans, specifications and project schedule
  • Prompt and can work 8-12 hours/day and 5-6 days/week
  • Experienced in Microsoft programs WORD and EXCEL and Site Manager; Field Book and Doc Express programs a plus
  • Familiar with typical construction activities to include grading,
  • Daily outside activities to include daily diary, daily measurement of quantities, contractors request for information, field orders, change orders, contractors pay requests
  • Substantial completion and final inspection walk-thru and punch list
  • Daily coordination and interaction with general contractor and sub-contractors, owners personnel, Utility Companies, Project Management Team, design team, and materials testing personnel
  • CAD skills beneficial
  • Valid driver’s license required
